President Rodrigo Duterte might be exempted and be allowed to travel to Kuwait despite the restrictions because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo stated that the Palace may request an exemption to permit Duterte in visiting the Gulf state.

"Knowing this President, I think he will pursue what he said,” Panelo said

“Puwede naming pag-usapan ‘yan, government-to-government. They can always exempt the President,” he added.

However, Panelo said that President Duterte has yet to plan his departure to the country.

Senator Christopher Lawrence Go mentioned that the Chief Executive aimed to go either in March or April of this year.

Kuwait imposed a travel ban in the country to avoid the spread of the COVID-19.

In a press conference at Malacañang, Duterte conveyed his desire to talk with the Kuwaiti Government personally to appeal the “maximum” penalty on the criminals involved in the murder of Filipino domestic worker Jeanalyn Villavende.
