The 24-man Gilas pool for the Asian Cup 2021 qualifiers was already been released by the SBP last Friday wherein a mix of veterans and youngsters were included.
Standing out for the veterans includes our highflyers Japeth Aguilar, Troy Rosario and “The Predator” CJ Perez together with our inside powerhouses Christian Standhardinger, Poy Erram and “The Pinoy Sakuragi” Marc Pingris is also back to the roster.
While looking out within our perimeters are Mac Belo who performed well this conference in the PBA together with Ray Parks Jr. who did not decline for the invitation this time. Our outside hitters are also present lead by Matthew Wright and Roger Pogoy and Kiefer Ravena as the main guard.
On the other side of the coin, the youngsters composed of the dunk-king Kobe Paras, inside operator Dave Ildefonso and Justine Baltazar, together with the brothers Juan and Javi Gomez de Liano as well as Matt and Mike Nieto.
PBA rookies Isaac Go, Rey Suerte, and Allyn Bulanadi are also within the roster while Thirdy Ravena and Jaydee Tungcab were added shortly after.
The roster was completed not including the five-time PBA MVP Jun Mar Fajardo due to the decision of the SBP to let him rest to be back on the next stages of the qualifying rounds.
The finalization of the roster was decided in Libis, Quezon City last Thursday afternoon, as said by Commissioner Willie Marcial.
The Gilas Pilipinas program continues to look for the coach of the team for the regional tournament but Tim Cone remains as one of the main choices.
The winningest coach of the PBA handled the team for the last SEA Games wherein the Gilas remained undefeated for the whole tournament.
The possibility that the Philippines would host the 2030 World cup remains a possibility as per Al Panlilio, president of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
