Staying Safe During Volcanic Ashfall

Department of Health (DOH) warned about potential effects of volcanic ashes that reaches within CALABARZON and Metro Manila last Sunday, January 12, 2020. The Taal Volcano exuded ash that has a kilometer high last Sunday afternoon. Philvocs (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) raised the alert status to level 4. A statement of DOH last Sunday night stated to the public that be aware of the conditions that may arise after the volcanic eruption. • Throat Irritation • Coughing • Bronchitis-like illness • Discomforting breathing DOH also reminded the people to immediately consult for medical help if these signs occur to them. The WHO (World Health Organization) the Philippines calls out the public to be vigilant and alert after the eruption. • Follow Evacuation Procedures • Stay indoors as much as possible • For the Elderly, Children and people that have a respiratory condition: Wear masks that block the ash particles. The N95 mask is recommended.

• Wear protective eye gear to prevent eye irritations.

On the other hand, DOH noticed to the public who were not that much affected by the ash falls: •Doors and windows must be closed •Keep your pets at home •Clear the roof ashes •Wear masks and eye gear if going outside
